Vote Not Fight

The Independent National Electoral Commission
Today marks the last phase of the process that started long ago. I said long ago because the preparation had started right before March 28th. Series of event had gone down to ensure that the elections were hitch-free. From the moment INEC started with arrangements for card readers, ballot boxes and other materials required for the elections, to the training of ad hoc staff and the federal government mobilizing security agencies to battle insurgency in the North East and also for a peaceful conduct of the elections.

I must say that indeed, we have witnessed a peaceful election and even the international community have attested to it. March 28, 29 and 30 was a historical three day period in the lives of Nigerians. We witnessed the change we had long clamoured for and the President further took the world by surprise when he conceded defeat. Everything went smoothly. Free, fair and credible elections many say.

Today is another moment to make history across the nation, as different states of the federation would go to the poll to decide whom their governors would be for the next 4 years to say the least. We as Nigerians have found out that there is power in our votes and not in violence. We know that collectively we can make our voices heard. We can make our choices and I just want to remind us of these things that we already know. As we go to the polls today, let us choose our candidates with our votes and not through fights. Let us choose a leader that is capable of fulfilling our dreams, visions and aspiration. Let us choose right.

Remember, vote not fight. God bless Nigeria!
