Post-election crises: People of Akwa Ibom protests

The people of Uyo, Akwa Ibom have demanded that yesterday's election be re-conducted because they believe the elections were rigged. According to the people, they believe elections in the past had always been free, fair and credible and rigging has never happened in the history of the state before.

Barrister okojie confirmed the Akwa Ibom violence. He said there were instances of violence in some local government in akwa ibom and this includes 'mkpat enin' in eket senatorial where two INEC officials were highly injured and election materials were snatched but later recovered by police officer.  Also 10 corps members were found in the residence of a former NYSC director, Major General edet akpan thumbprinting on ballot papers. The Akwa Ibom REC said that the corp members have been arrested along with the army chief, on the issue of the card reader. The REC further said that the card readers worked well when compared to the presidential election, expect in few places.

Elections I would say are in three phases; pre-election, election proper and post-election and there is none of the phases that does not allow violence. Thank God we have completed the first two phases successfully with minimal violence and I think this is the time for security agencies to be on guard to ensure the final phase is violent-free likewise.
