Opposition calls for cancellation of results

The opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) have made a call to the Independent National Electroral Commission (INEC) for the cancellation of some of the results in the ongoing governorship and state assemblies elections. The reason given by the opposition party was irregularities in the polls.

Truly, there have been some states with some level of irregularities in the polls while some have gone smoothly. The likes of some polling stations in Abia state, part of Kogi state, amidst others have witnessed chaos. Some analysts have blamed the government for not doing enough to ensure security or orderliness in these governorships and state assemblies election compared to the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections.

A friend of mine who happened to be a corp member in Abia state told me of the ordeal she encountered when a clash between the supporters of the ruling party, PDP and APGA ensued. 'Chaos everywhere as people ran in different directions', she said. Also, was similar situation in some polling stations in other parts of the nation. Overall, many still believe that the election was credible, however, there are exceptions to this view. Anyway, what is important at this juncture is that the elections have been concluded and we wait anxiously for the official announcements of the results by INEC.

More so, all lapses that have been encountered should be taken note of by INEC, so as to curb them for future elections.
