Pass Grade Abolished, List Grade is now a Third Class

After a meeting by the National Universities Commission (NUC), a conclusion was reached and a decision taken that a pass grade should not be given to students any longer and the list grade a student can get is a third class. This simply means that the minimum pass mark for courses in the universities will now be 45 per cent, that is, a D-grade, instead of the previous 40 per cent which was E-grade.

There are still mixed reactions regarding this development with several schools of thoughts already. As some believes it would help to improve the level of seriousness among students as there would be more competitiveness, however, many are afraid that many students who could have obtained a pass grade from the institution could be forced to join the already over-stretched society of lack of jobs.

Anyway I am still thinking and yet to give my own personal opinion on this. Let us see the trends  of the development and compare it with what we had before. Maybe there would be an overall improvement in the educational system or a worsened society. Only time would tell!
