INEC officially reshedules 2015 general elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially rescheduled the general elections till six weeks time, citing security issues as part of the reasons for the postponement of the elections. The presidential elections is now due for March 28 while the gubernatorial elections would come up on April 11.

As at the time of this post, the news of postponement and the reasons behind it is still live on channels television. According to Prof. Attahiru Jega, only 66% of permanent voters card (PVC) have been distributed so far. Apart from the security challenges in the country cited, it was also noted that more time would be available for people to collect their voters card.

The question that kept arising however in the minds of some is that, despite the arrival of troops and the latest offensives against Boko Haram, if they were not subdued in the next six weeks, would there be call for further postponement? Again, after six weeks, would INEC have reached a 80-90% distribution of the permanent voters cards? Only time would tell.....
