Chibok Girls and the Ray of Hope

Fellow Nigerians, it is with so much empathy, sobriety and a heart full of grief that I bring this to reminiscence. I am bewildered, flabbergasted and dumbfounded at the reality that with some weeks to the 14th of April 2015, which would mark exactly 365 days since Nigerians and indeed the rest of the world, watched in amazement and utter disbelief, how almost 300 girls were abducted from Chibok, a small town in Borno State, northern Nigeria, that the better Part of the girls are still in captivity.

The Condition is not only worrisome but also disheartening. They have been victims not only of their abductors, but of a government who has been unwilling or unable to put in the necessary measures for their safe return. This is unacceptable! alas! disbeliving, how the government has handled their rescue mission with so much disdain and sheer cluelessness. Also, perplexed at how our once fearless and dauntless military has albeit turned cowardice with no substantial progress.
I said to myself, who will bring back our girls?
When shall we have them return alive?
Let the truth be told.
Their affliction is indescribable their agony is befuddling.
Their cry is unending.
Their hardship is unimaginable.
Their misery is inexpressible.
Their oppression is limitless,
Their travail is ineffable.
Their worry is incomprehensible.

I, therefore Call On all concerned citizens to rise up and tell the Nigerian government and governments around the world that the lives of all citizens are sacred and that we cannot sit back and watch as innocence is destroyed and the lives of young girls shattered. We must be relentless in our demand to #BringBackOurGirls now and to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. I, Therefore want to Commend the Bring back Our girls Movement and indeed Salute the rare Courage of her Convener, Mrs. Oby ezekwesili, the full Story of Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili's audacity of hope and tenacity of Spirit Would have to be told by historians, Political Scientist and eminent Psychologists in the future. It will be a tale in the realm of thrillers. She's indeed a Mother!

The #BringBackOurGirls Movement will be remembered for the Stand they took for the liberation and the emancipation of the girls. I want to state emphatically that I stand for the girls of Chibok because I trust others to Stand for me if I ever fall, I will therefore not retreat nor Surrender in my demand for their safe release. Their release is thus, non-negotiable! Hence, With infinite hope, I believe you are Closer than ever. Alexandre dumain Once Said " There is neither happiness nor Misery in the World, there is only the Comparison of one state with another, nothing more. the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness.

We must have felt what it is to die, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of life. Never forget, that until the day God will deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words, 'Wait and Hope."
Dear Sisters,
A little more persistence,
A few more Seasons,
A few more Suns Shall Set,
A few more Sabbaths,
A few more Storms shall beat,
A few more Struggles, A few more effort,
A few more days Shall Come,
It is but a little While, you shall be With us, I hope Soon you'll all join us and We Shall live as One. May the light of hope Continue to Shine on you all.

Jonathan is sick Says Kwankwaso

The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has stated that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari is in a better health condition than President Goodluck Jonathan and is therefore, fit to rule Nigeria.

Mr. Buhari, a former Head of State and Retired General of the Nigerian Army, is presently on a working visit to the United Kingdom. His campaign office had issued a statement Thursday saying in the course of the visit, Mr. Buhari will hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with interest in the affairs of Nigeria. “General Buhari would hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatam House in London, the spokesperson for his campaign, Garba Shehu, said.

However, there has been wide speculation by supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, that Mr. Buhari was actually ferried out to receive medical attention because his health was failing.
The Kano governor who had a chat with newsmen in Kano on Sunday said Mr. Buhari has no health challenges. “By my judgement, since we finished our party primary elections, he is sound, hale and fit to rule this country. “In fact I feel he is healthier than the incumbent occupier of the seat because he went to all the states on campaigns in addition to other engagements that come in between,” he said.

Mr. Kwankwaso also accused the Federal government and the ruling PDP of sharing money to win the presidential election fixed for March 28. He said money alone cannot give success in the forthcoming elections. “The Federal Government and the PDP can use all the money in the treasury to bribe whoever they want, but God, the Almighty, has his own way of doing things. “Power belongs to Him not to those with money or who control security agencies. Nigerians are wiser,” he said. On his stewardship as governor, Mr. Kwankwaso said every state governor can work to develop their states unless if they chose to steal instead. “People are surprised and many are asking questions that where did we get the money to do these projects we are doing in Kano. But the truth of the matter is that – you cannot steal and perform. It is the money for projects that people steal that is why they are not performing. In Kano we don’t steal,” he said.

He enumerated some of the landmark projects he undertook in the state to include the award of an Independent Power Project at Tiga and Challawa-Gorge Dam at the cost of N14.2BN, establishment of one garment factory in each of the 44 local governments in the state and the establishment of a Micro Finance bank also in each of the 44 local governments. Mr. Kwankwaso also said 44 Schools for Islamic Studies and 44 Technical Schools were built in the state. “These were with a view to ensure that all our children that finished primary school get space to proceed to have post-primary education “I feel so fulfilled that our governments as been able to encourage Kano people to accord education the priority it deserves,” he said.

Gov. Fayose Celebrates Obasanjo's exit from the PDP Party

It is no longer news that the former president of the Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his disagreement with President Goodluck Jonathan whom he accused of failing in leadership and encouraging corruption. These allegations by Baba (Obasanjo) has generated lots of negative and positive criticism from Nigerians at home and in diaspora.

Some are disappointed regarding his exit as he is known to be someone committed to the greatness of the party. Someone who in time past have led the party to two victories, someone who could also be pointed to as one of the pillars of the party, however, others including Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State are celebrating his resignation.

Fayose who is well known for his controversial newspaper adverts sponsored a front page advert on the daily Sun newspaper in which he congratulated PDP members on the exit of former President Obasanjo from the party whom he refers as the troubler and tormentor of PDP. There is also a part where he uses words like, “Goodbye to bad rubbish” also adding that the coast is now clear for President Goodluck Jonathan’s victory.

Well in few weeks to come, when Nigerians finally decides, we believe there would be an end to the verbal missile that has become rampant in the political system.

I do not give a damn about Obasanjo tearing his PDP membership card- Presidency

The president of the federal republic of Nigeria
President Goodluck Jonathan
The President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday shared his thoughts on the controversial dumping of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stating that he did not feel any difference as Obasanjo had already fired so many stingers that it no longer meant anything. The president made this known in the course of an interview with Edward Dickson, Sina Oladeinde, Debo Abdulai, Lasisi Olagunji and Taiwo Adisa of Nigerian Tribune at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

President Jonathan further spoke on allegations that he was trying to install the type of government Laurent Gbagbo had tried to install in Cote d’Ivoire before he was forced out, explaining that he (President Jonathan) was even a major factor in ousting Gbagbo from power. In the course of the interview, Mr. President touched on a number of issues, including his bid for re-election, the agricultural reforms of his administration, his rating of the All progressives Congress presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, his anti-corruption drive amidst others.

The Saga Between theTwo Actresses, Toyin and Stella

About eight months ago, Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu sent out a tweet that a lot of people thought had to do with Stella Damasus. The tweet came after reports of assassins being sent to the house of Stella Damasus because of her opinions about the government.

Toyin Aimakhu tweeted, ‘Madam, Nigeria is my country. Nobody is killing anyone because 'no be only you do video #VisaDonExpire #BringOurSonBack #AttentionSeeker #LuvuStill’

Eight months after Stella Damasus has finally addressed the issue with a vlog that centres on hate mail and mean tweets. In the vlog Stella Damasus says ‘I love you like crazy. But let’s look at your hashtags again. You said #VisaDonExpire, I have been in this country for about two years, and nobody has asked me to leave. Apart from that, I’m doing a lot of work with the United Nations. If I had a problem with my Visa, I don’t think they would be working with me. When it comes to the visa issue, let’s be sure of what we are saying’

Aunty Toyin Aimakhu again took to social media to respond. She wrote on her Instagram page and I was able to get a screenshot before she deleted the post.

What the hell is wrong with this two. I think this behaviour is not matured. Someone should tell these ladies that they are celebs and should grow up!

Five Men arrested in South Africa for Keeping Children as Sex Slaves

The Free State police in South Afica said on Monday that five men were arrested in Kutlwanong, near Odendaalsrus, for allegedly kidnapping two girls and keeping them as sex slaves. The girls which were aged 12 and 14 were released on February 17 this year. The spokeswoman Molebogeng Lechesa said that they told the police they had been kept as sex slaves in a shack behind a house.

The five men were alleged to have paid the girls. Police officers accompanied the girls to the scene around 11pm on Sunday where the children pointed out the suspects and they were immediately arrested. The girls went missing on January 26.

The five men, aged between 22 and 25, were reported to have called themselves "300" and had tattooed the number on the girls. They would appear in court soon on charges of kidnapping and statutory rape.

In my opinion, I think these men are criminals and should be dealt with seriously. I mean what is the world turning into? You did not just turned these children into sex slaves but also went ahead to tattoo the number "300" on their body. Let's stand against all forms of slavery. This is a free world. Children are the leaders of tomorrow!

Sucide Bombing in Yobe state: Female Bomber at Work Once Again

It was reported that a female suicide bomber denoted a bomb at a market in Potiskum, Yobe state on Sunday (yesterday) killing herself and four others in the process, with several others getting injured. The incident took place at a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) market in Potiskum, Yobe State. PUNCH newspaper reported that five people were killed and about 46 were injured. A mobile phone seller at the market told one of the PUNCH correspondents that the female suicide bomber hit the entrance to the GSM market at around 1.15 pm.

Those who sustained injuries were taken to the General Hospital at Potiskum. Some were reported to have minor injuries while others are hanging to life. Increase in death role was however not ruled out since injuries sustained by some were serious and could require a bigger hospital outside Yobe state. Now that suicide bombing has become rampant in that town, my wish is that the people of Potiskum would soon enjoy the peace it once enjoyed.

I just wonder how women who are supposed to be of virtues in the community have been brainwashed immensely to the point of being turned into an instrument of mass destruction. We can only hope that in the coming weeks, the Nigerian military together with the multi National Joint Task Force should be able reduce the activities of these radicals and save innocent lives. God bless Nigeria!

Obasanjo explains why he tore his PDP membership card

Obasanjo told Premium Times this last Tuesday, that he tore apart the card to prove that he was more concerned in the progress of our Nigeria than in any party association. “They were concerned that I had only one leg in the party, and worried that since I’m their leader in the ward, they need to hear from me,” Obasanjo said of the PDP members who paid him a visit to convince him to be loyal to the party.
According to the former president he said that when the party members arrived in his home, they were singing a Yoruba song which translates to mean: “Nigeria belongs to all of us, we must not allow it to be destroyed and we must join hands to make it great.” He went on to say that the PDP members urged him to participate in party activities to prevent him from being drive out. “You are our leader and it is you we are following. You have remained a card-carrying member of the party. But since you became angry with the party we have lost sense of direction and now we are hearing that they want to expel you. If they expel you, where do we go? What do we do?” PDP ward Chairman, Surajudeen Oladunjoye said this according to Obasanjo.

Obasanjo stated that at this point he handed his membership card over to Oladunjoye to do with as he pleased. “In my response, I said when you people came you were singing a song and I agreed that Nigeria is our own. If the issue is the party, I will not choose the party at the detriment of Nigeria and I will fight for Nigeria even at the detriment of the party. I will rather surrender my membership of the party so you people can move on politically,” Obasanjo said to the party members.

Do you know Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is 91 years old?

The president of Zimbabwe
President Robert Mugabe
I am sure many would be amazed at this while for others they may not see it as a big deal. It was reported that Lion, elephant, buffalo and impala meat will be served at a lavish birthday celebration for Zimbabwe’s president and this move has infuriated animal rights groups. Robert Mugabe’s guests will dine on more than $US120,000 ($154,000) worth of wild animals at his 91st birthday party later this month.
Local farmer Tendai Musasa promised to donate two elephants, two buffalo, two sables, five impalas and a lion for the February 28 event, Zimbabwe’s Chronicle newspaper reported. “This is our way of supporting the function and to ensure a celebratory mood in our community as well,” Musasa said. “The total value is $120,000. This reflects the money we get annually and we thought this would be a perfect gesture.”
Just at a moment we are decrying the drastic reductions in the population of wildlife and a need for more conservation efforts to prevent these endangered species from becoming a fairy tale to the future generations, some would be busy consuming a lion's meat.

Explosions and Gunshots interrupts APC Rally in Okirika, Rivers state

A rally organised by the All Progressives Congress in Okirika, Rivers state which is home to Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was interrupted twice by hoodlums on today. The rally was first interrupted by triple bomb blasts which occurred a few minutes after the leadership and party faithful assembled at the Okirika National Secondary School field in the early hours of the day.

A source told PREMIUM TIMES that the rally had just got underway, when three bombs went off in quick succession in three different locations close to the venue of the programme. There was a stampede as people fled in different directions to safety and nobody knows who detonated the bombs but it was very close to the football field where the rally took place. Many people sustained injuries while trying to escape to safety.

Two hours after the initial disruption, the organizers rallied party faithful and supporters back to the venue of the rally and the programme was kicked off again. Just as the speakers mounted the platform to address the rally, sporadic gunshots rented the air and the party members again took to their heels.
The party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside, was fielding questions from a Channels Television reporter when the gunshots went off. Both Mr. Peterside and the reporter took to their heels as armed mobile policemen fired back and tried to calm down frightened citizens.

While monitoring the rally, which was broadcast live on Channels Television, PREMIUM TIMES saw one old man with a walking stick struggling to escape to safety while the gunshots persisted.
The aged party supporter fell down but got up again and still ran away with the help of his walking stick. The Channels Television cameras were left rolling while the cameramen scampered to safety in the nearby buildings.

Still in campaign mode and all this is happening. We can't imagine the post-election mode. Only God would save us. Support a violence free elections!

Gen Buhari Address Members of the APC Today at Abuja

Below is the general's address

The president-elect of the federal republic of Nigeria
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari
The National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, thank you very much for your speech. Leaders and elders of our party, I want to join the Chairman in welcoming you all to this meeting. In the last two months, we have traveled the length and breadth of this country, we have heard the cry of our people and we have told them that we hear their cry – the cry for change. As you are all aware, our country is passing through trying times imposed on us by the bad PDP administration. The imminent change in answer to the yearnings of our people has been delayed by the postponement of the February 14th, 2015 elections. Our patience and resilience will be tested in the days ahead. We must pass this test.

In a time like this, which in football analogy can be referred to as extra time, we must avoid making costly mistakes. In the weeks ahead, I would like to implore you to remain true to the vision – to build a country that works for all of us and not just for the few. To rescue and stabilise our nation from the hands of plunderers. On this, I believe we are all agreed. The important issue today is that we must use the next six weeks that have been imposed on us, to re-charge and re-focus on our goal. The goal is to win the elections now slated for March 28th and April 11th with a convincing majority. We should aim to achieve a victory that will be beyond dispute and proceed to form the next government and start work on the task of rebuilding our beloved country.

Our eyes must be on the objective to build a great society that works for all of us. A country where every child has an equal opportunity to get an education, where every young Nigerian who needs a job can find one. Where the sick are looked after and senior citizens are provided for. A country which gives value to human life, where the welfare and security of all is a national priority and corruption is defeated.

However, I must not fail to mention at this point, one issue which has become topical in the last few days and that is the worrisome revelations by Capt. Sagir Koli about how he, a serving officer at that time, was deployed, with other serving officers, some more senior in rank to work with key politicians of the PDP to rig the Ekiti elections. Up till now, there has been no official denial of this most unfortunate event. It makes me wonder, in the circumstances that led to shifting of the date of the Federal Elections, whether the security services are even now being prepared to play similar roles in the March 28th and April 11th elections. Let me reiterate once more that our security services have serious constitutional responsibilities to the people of the nation and so their importance to the health of the country cannot be under estimated. It is therefore imperative that their leaders must not drag these invaluable institutions into the realm of partisan politics.

I personally and, am sure, all Nigerians, have tremendous respect for our security services. I therefore urge strongly that they stick to, and concentrate on, their constitutional duties, otherwise they stand the risk of becoming part of our already complicated national situation. I am deeply encouraged by the very high degree of cooperation and commitment to our common purpose of changing Nigeria for good that you all have exhibited in our campaign. I have noticed many of us embarked on our campaign trips without carrying a change of clothing hoping to return home the same day only to spend the night on strange beds because the dynamics of the campaign required that they spend the night away from home. You have ignored in some cases personal health challenges and given yourself to the campaign effort just to be part of the movement for change.

There are some of you who lost in the various primaries to choose candidates for our party during these elections and rather than being disappointed you have thrown your energies and resources to the campaign not minding your personal losses. And there are others who have been made mind boggling offers by our opponents in a bid to break our ranks and curtail our momentum in the march to change Nigeria for good, yet you have chosen to be on the side of a cause that is just. I therefore appeal to you all party leaders and faithful not to rest thinking that all is won. Six weeks is a long time and we do not know the plans of the other side but with our strong resolve we will prevail.

Therefore let us keep our eyes on the ball. Let us work as we have never done before, and let us watch and help each other. The days and weeks ahead will be tough. Our resolve will be tested and all kinds of evil tricks will be on display. But do not despair. The goal is in sight. Change is coming. The people of Nigeria will prevail. God has destined Nigeria to be a great country. We shall overcome and Change shall be achieved.

God bless you all, God bless the APC and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thank you.

I pray the elections now scheduled for March 28 and April 11 be conducted smoothly and peacefully.

Group Calls for Details of President's Doctorate Degree

The president of the federal republic of Nigeria
President Goodluck Jonathan
Just recently, a civil society organization by the name Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law is asking the university of port harcourt to provide the following documents related to the president’s doctorate qualification as stipulated by section 2 and 4 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011:
  1. The title of the president’s doctorate dissertation
  2. Year of registration as a doctorate candidate
  3. Name of his doctorate supervisor(s)
  4. Name of his external examiner(s)
  5. Comments/ reports of the external examiners on the dissertation/thesis
  6. Photocopy of the dissertation/thesis
  7. Date of graduation from the university
The organization, on behalf of Omano Edigheji said they gave the university seven days to provide the documents. They further went ahead to say that they were ready to bear any cost the university might incur in making the documents available.

Many believe that the group is trying to get back at the president over the controversy generated by the secondary school result of the All Progressives Congress party candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari. In which the secondary school had since come out to provide a copy of the statement of his results, with some of his then classmates testifying to have sat for the examination together.

It is no news that Mr President attained all his degrees (B.sc, M.sc and PhD) from the university of port harcourt. Moreover, even if he didn't complete his doctorate degree, he would still be eligible to contest for presidency, as the minimum requirement is a secondary school certificate, however, he might be disqualified on the ground of perjury for including it as part of his academic qualifications in the forms he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

I just hope the so called organization are digging up the right information and not digging out what would result in shame! Only time would tell

Obasanjo publicly tore his PDP membership card

Obasanjo no dey joke o (Nigerian Pidgin). The former president of Nigeria, chief Olusegun Obasanjo publicly tore his PDP membership card. He left his guests on Monday at his Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta with bated breath when he tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card in their presence. The guests, who were leaders of the PDP from Obasanjo’s ward around his former residence in Ita Eko, where he registered, visited the ex-president to express their concern with his recent utterances against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and what he considered as the President’s role in the postponement of the general elections from February to March.

Obasanjo had alleged on Saturday that Jonathan had a “grand plan” to scuttle democracy in the country through the poll shift, accusing the President of trying to win the presidential poll “through hook or crook.” The guests in Abeokuta had told the former Head of State that they had come to plead with him to stop his criticisms of the incumbent president. They also informed him of the feelers that they were getting that the leaders of the party were planning to expel him from the party. Obasanjo asked his guests if they were with their PDP membership card, which some of them produced. He subsequently asked for his own, which someone brought to him. He then directed the leader of the team to tear the card in shreds, telling the visitors that he was no longer a member of the ruling party.

The former president had last year resigned his membership of the party, when he was the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, arguing that he could no longer be in the same party and be led in the South-West by someone he referred to as a confirmed drug baron.

The question in the minds of many is that what does his action by publicly tearing his membership card connotes. Does it mean he has renounced the party he was one of  its early members and also helped nurtured to prominence in Africa? or could this be a stage-managed show or another theatrical play? Whatever he is up to, I am sure we would get to know better in the coming days or weeks.

The world’s most expensive iPhone 6 has just gone on sale from a UK company. It comes with a ridiculous price tag of 2.3 million greenbacks, approximately N970 million in Naira equivalent, which is reportedly worth a little island.

The case is plated in 24-carat gold and it is encrusted with more than 700 diamonds, which makes it unique and special. The company behind the outrageous design, which sees the Apple logo made up of diamonds as well as lining the side of the device with the precious jewels is called Goldgenie.

It reportedly counts Usain Bolt, former football star David Beckham and rapper and music producer P Diddy among its clients.

Who would ever imagine 15 years ago that a phone could cost up to N970 million. An amount enough to establish a life time investment! Anyway, we are in the world of technological innovations, so nothing is impossible. I wish you all a happy purchase.

On Valentine's Day: What it is meant to be

Just as we exchange pleasantries and maybe gifts on some special days of the year e.g. We say HAPPY NEW YEAR (1st Jan), MERRY CHRISTMAS (25th Dec), HAPPY EASTER (whenever it falls), HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ ANNIVERSARY and so on, so also as 14 February becomes one of those days we say HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! For florists, this is their biggest day because a lot of RED ROSES will be sold. For Card Makers and Chocolatiers too, there is gonna be a lot of bonanza in sales as romance is feted in the cities and towns (though not sure if that is the case in Nigeria ooo). But at least, those who sell RED clothes, shoes, belts, caps, e.t.c. will make so much money because many will be on TOUCH OF RED TODAY! Fortunately, today is SATURDAY, all the tourist attraction centres (Malls and Cinemas, Gardens, Waterfalls, Beaches, Game Centres and many more), even HOTELS, EATERIES and MAMA-PUT would make money today (abeg who dey come take me out ooo?) LOVE IN THE AIR, HOPE YOU CAN FEEL IT?

ON A LIGHTER NOTE Jesus sacrificially died for Love of humanity, Romeo of Shakespeare also died for Love of Juliet, Jack in Titanic died for love, Achilles & Hector in Troy died for love, Samson even died for love of Delilah in d Bible (All are MEN), WOMEN WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE DYING FOR OOO? For a CHANGE this year, please let WOMEN BE THE ONES TO BUY GUYS GIFTS and TAKE GUYS OUT! Please smile if you believe in LOVE! However, frankly speaking, these days, experience has shown that IT IS WOMEN WHO DIE FOR LOVE! MEMORIAL OF TRUE (AGAPE) LOVE Brethren, I am sure you know that today we celebrate the Memorials of SAINTS CYRIL & METHODIUS, who lived and died for the FAITH and expression of their LOVE OF GOD! I am also sure we know that VALENTINE is not all about what we have above, going out and exchanging Romantic gifts?
It may interest you to know that the origin of Valentine is not ROMANTIC at all- at least not in the traditional sense, but a subtle Promotion of Marriage! VALENTINE IS A SYMBOL OF TRUE LOVE, St VALENTINE was a Roman Priest during the third century when Emperor Claudius II ruled the Roman Empire.  Desperate to recruit more soldiers to his armies, suspended ALL WEDDINGS to encourage single men with no family responsibilities to enlist and serve in combat. FOR HIM, UNMARRIED SOLDIERS FOUGHT BETTER THAN MARRIED ONES! St Valentine, witnessing the anguish of young couples in love but unable to marry, decided to perform SECRET WEDDING ceremonies in defiance to the Emperor. He was later caught, beaten and imprisoned. While in prison, he miraculously restored the sight of his jailer's daughter, an event that made the jailer (Asterius) to become a christian. In appreciation, the little girl will always visit Valentine in prison wit a flower. And on the eve of his execution, he left a farewell note for her and signed: FROM YOUR VALENTINE!
THE TRUE MEANING OF LOVE which Valentine represents IS SACRIFICE NOT LUST. The world celebrates today a man who gave his life to see the institution of marriage been kept alive. A man who believes LOVE should be given a chance, not Lust! A man who made SACRIFICE for love! WHAT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE TODAY? Nigerians Become Refugee in Chad, Cameroon

A country supposed to be known as one of the strongest nations in Africa with regards to almost everything; economy, military and so on, now have her men and women seeking refuge in neighboring countries due to security reasons. This is totally disheartening and our only hope is that the military gets it right now they have promised us six weeks to the election that, even if not quenched, Boko Haram activities would be subdued to the minimum.

These were some of the tweets of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) regarding the mass migration of Nigerians to other countries.

Anyway, I do not blame their migration, safety is very important. We shall survive!

Amanpour Interviews Buhari on CNN Tonight

The Cable Network News anchor, Christiane Amanpour would be interviewing the All Progressives Peoples party presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari tonight by 8:00 PM local time on her popular CNN program Amanpour.

I wish to inform my dear readers not to miss tonight's program on CNN, as we hear what the former head of state has for all Nigerians. He has been making the word 'Change' his campaign watchword, let us hear him discuss the kind of change he has for us. Could it be a change that would have a positive or negative impact on us? Do not miss it!

Corp Members in Abia State Protest Over Non-payment of Training Fee

After the three days training of corp members in preparation for the general elections as INEC ad-hoc staff, the federal government promised corp members that are participating a sum of 4, 500 Naira which has not yet being paid. The training was organized for interested corp members across the federation and no payment has been made yet.

I wonder why it is only corp members in Abia state that are protesting since all the Corp members who were involved in the training have not received any payments. Non-violent, peaceful protest is good especially when your demands are not met, however, when some unscrupulous elements go jumping into protest unnecessarily, then I think the law should take its course.

Jonathan to Hold Presidential Media Chat on Election Postponement

President Goodluck Jonathan on wednesday (today) will host a special edition of the Presidential Media Chat. This was disclosed yesterday in a press statement by the Presidential Spokesman, Reuben Abati, stating that the president will respond to questions from a panel of journalists on current national issues. It is believed that the interview will focus mainly on the general elections which have been rescheduled to March 28 and April 11 for the presidential and gubernatorial elections respectively.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had postponed the elections citing security challenges in the country, however, contradicting the president's campaign which blamed logistics. The military has since said the security challenges posed by the Boko Haram will be brought under control before the expiration of the six weeks. During the media chat, which will be broadcast live on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) from 7:00 PM, the president will respond to questions from a panel of journalists on current national issues. Mr Abati further noted that all other television and radio stations in the country may hook-up to NTA and FRCN to relay the programme to their viewers and listeners.

We hope the military are actually telling us the truth now because it seems unrealistic to solve a problem you were not able to solve in 6 years in just 6 weeks, however, nothing is impossible. Maybe they have finally gotten it right, with enough logistics, weapons and manpower. Whether that is true or not, only time would tell!

Right Hand Blessing or Left Hand Blessing: Does it really matter?

I saw this picture online. Very hilarious and I thought I should share it with my readers. I could not just help the laughter. I mean what has blessings got to do with coming from the right or coming from the left, God can bless you either way. However, one thing I think I have learnt is that nothing is hidden, a picture taken in 2010 and someone had to wait for five years to take another one just for comparison! That is equivalent to some research works...

Seen in the picture is President Jonathan receiving prayer from the general oversear of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye both in 2010 and 2015 respectively

BREAKING: Obasanjo Endorses Buhari

It is no longer news that Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has publicly expressed support for the electioneering campaign of Muhammadu Buhari, the former military head of state and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at the launch of My Watch in Nairobi, Kenya yesterday. Former president Obasanjo, who served his two terms as president under the same Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform the present administration is now running on, condemned the postponement of the election. He said, “The circumstances (Buhari) will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature — he knows that,” “He is smart enough, he is educated enough, he is experienced enough and why should I not support him?”

It is the first time that the ex-president has publicly spoken of his support for Rtd. General Muhammadu Buhari. He recently said that he would only speak out on his leaning after the election has been conducted. He further went on to say, "On the postponement of the election, the signs are not auspicious. I don’t know whether a script is being played.” He criticized the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of wasting the country’s resources. “You need to ask (Jonathan) how has he let (the army) go to this extent,” he said. “Many things went wrong: recruitment went wrong; training went wrong; morale went down; motivation not there; corruption was deeply ingrained; welfare was bad.”

If we remember very well, former president Obasanjo has had issues selling the book, My Watch with court injunction preventing the sales of the book. One of the question being asked now is that, "Is he (Obasanjo) telling us the truth with whatever he says now or just trying to get back at the administration?" We can only hope that the elections now rescheduled for March 28 and April 11 goes well, free and fair.

I Love this Gender

On my way upstairs to my apartment, I could not help but notice a young girl conspicuously writhing in pain. Touched by this, I started to move closer to inquire of her what the problem was. In my subconscious mind I was acutely aware of how young she was, so what could make this young girl look so wrenched, I wondered. I was metres away, so walking down to her gave me an opportunity to evaluate her possible qualms. Now if she were to be heartbroken by a guy, I thought, at that age I would have to give her a lecture she would live to remember not minding if her gnash progresses geometrically, what if she were to be a victim of rape, at this thought, a lump formed in my throat with no one or nothing to grind, I speechlessly offered a prayer.

What if she were beaten by her parents, well even the bible acquiesce to that. What if she has been molested, I quickly shoved the thoughts away. In my subconscious mind I began to see more clearly the toughness of the female gender, so inbuilt is it that I could not help but wondered. In pain she laboured, for the aftermath of the enjoyment we shared. I saw the fragility of her frame holding the strength in the inside, what a uniqueness! In the softness of her hands she mold generations. In the girth of her belly she holds what I deposit. She is so precious. She gives life an essence. She is an epitome of God's radiance, an embodiment of sagacity and intelligence, yet she is a victim of societal injustice. Men who are obsessed with want of her bosom and body curves, find ways to assault her, what cowardice. She is a victim of domestic violence, she loves with her heart so unconditional and true, more often than not subjected to emotional trauma.

She could be so tough on the inside yet delicate. This gender is to be loved, to be cared for and to be cherished. The spark in her eyes needs be maintained. The pulchritude of femininity should not be abused, it emanates from the inside. Treat them like eggs in all its majesty and grandeur because in truth they are so tender. Increase in women welfare makes way for a better country. They shape our youths, mold our children, take care of our fathers, build our tomorrow, with practically nothing she carves out something. Wakes up so early in the morning to get the family rolling. At night she could be so full of passion and excitement. O! How I love this gender! (I am not a promiscuous fellow)

Finally I got to her and discovered it was that period of the month, and my first thought was God how could you make a 13 year old undergo this periodic torture? Now I understand why Adam saw Eve and his heart beat skipped, a lump formed in his throat and he practically jumped up, shouting Halleluyah! They call it being an African man but I make bold to say its social irresponsibility (which I am often guilty of), How dare you enter a vehicle with a lady and not open the door for her to enter? How dare you raise a hand to strike her? How dare you hurt her ? How dare you use and dump her? Men desist from this unwholesome attitudes. Women are the epitome of God's goodness. This piece is dedicated to my female folks.

Unemployment Rate in Nigeria: What is the Actual Figure?

When I take a look at the articles on our dear motherland Nigeria, I find myself happy with the reputation we have gained over time, however, at other times I feel sad because everyone seems to be in search for a job. Let us take a look at our profile and you would indeed see that we have truly gained that reputation. Nigeria is the 12th largest producer of petroleum in the world, 8th largest exporter, and has the 10th largest proven reserves. Nigeria is often referred to as the giant of Africa due to its population and economy. A country with over 250 ethnic groups, rich in culture and traditions. The most populous black nation in the world, the most populous nation in Africa, seventh most populous country in the world and also with one of the largest population of youths in the world. As of 2014, Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and with regards to GDP (PPP) is the 21st largest economy in the world. Overall, Nigeria is blessed with lot of mineral resources, however, we all know that a country where crude oil accounts for 40% of GDP and 80% of Government earnings, a dwindling price of crude oil would spell doom for such a country.

As I ponder on these record breaking achievements, the one that catches my eye and kept coming to mind is the fact that Nigeria has one of the largest population of youths in the entire world. Oh, "Are these youths gainfully employed?" Some are employed and some are not. Ask most youths about employment opportunities and they tell you they are looking for one too. Then the question is, "What is actually the figure of unemployment rate in Nigeria?" Sometimes we hear that 1 million jobs were created and infact recently I made a post on about 4,250 jobs created. This kind of job creation should at least have effect on the unemployment rate figures and a general improvement in the standard of living. In the USA for example, when you hear of job creation, you also hear of the reduction of unemployment rate from maybe13% to 9%. They then go further to let you know that with the addition of 300, 000 jobs by maybe second quarter, the unemployment rate should have dropped to 8.5%. Just look at the analysis.

Here in Nigeria, exception is the case, only the jobs created would be made known or a report of rise in unemployment by 2% would be announced. "Can anybody give the actual figure before the 2% rise?" To satisfy my curiosity, I had to search for answers and I thought the right place to get them was the National Bureau of Statistics, since they get information from about 9 other bureaus (National Planning Commission, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Federal Ministry of Health, National Population Commission, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Nigerian Embassies and High Commissions, Federal Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Nigeria and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation). But I was disappointed because despite all the information believed to be contributed by these other bureaus, there was no place on the National Bureau of Statistics website to give information on unemployment rate figures. It was job creations and other things on the website. The level of information available to the National Bureau of Statistics is good enough to estimate our unemployment rate figures, however, the figures are not there for us to see and my question is, "why?"

There are rumours that the unemployment rate is between 23-29%. We don't need to live our lives by rumour standards. If it is true, I think we should all be aware, live by it and make demands for ways to create jobs to reduce the unemployment rate. While the National Bureau of Statistics of developed countries publishes figures of their unemployment rates, I don't know why ours have decided to keep it. When jobs are created with figures released each time the creation is done, the bureau of statistics should also come out to tell us that, the over 500, 000 jobs created have brought about a decrease in the level of unemployment rate in the country and therefore this is the new figure. God bless our motherland! God bless Nigeria!

Ivory Coast crowned African champions after dramatic final

Ivory Coast crowned the African champions at the nations cup
The Ivory Coast Team
Ivory Coast emerged the new African champions on Sunday night after they defeated the Black Stars of Ghana in the final match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. They won the match played in Bata, Equatorial Guinea 9-8 on penalties in a repeat of the 1992 AFCON final as the game remained goalless after the extra time.

Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry scored the last of the penalties to give the Elephants their second title as they replaced Nigeria as African champions at the Estadio de Bata after two previous attempts in the finals. The Elephants lost to Egypt 4-2 on penalties in Egypt 2006 and also lost 8-7 to Zambia in the 2012 edition co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Ghana were seeking their fifth title while the Ivorians were seeking their second. The Elephants had defeated the Black Stars 11-10 in penalties to win their first title in 1992 with African legend Abedi Pele Ayew as the Ghanaian captain. On Sunday he had two of his children losing again to the Ivorians. Abedi though missed that final clash after he got a second yellow card in the semi final.
Elephants’ coach, Herve Renard, also on Sunday became the first coach to win the trophy with two different countries having done same with Zambia in 2012. Sunday night was the 10th time the AFCON would be decided through penalty shoot outs.

The finale was also the first time in the history of the tournament, two families played in the AFCON final as the Toure brothers — Kolo and Yaya — played against the Ayew brothers of Andre and Jordan. Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan returned to the starting line-up in place of Jordan Ayew after responding quickly to medical treatment to a hip injury. He was hurt in a collision with Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara in the quarterfinals and was only on the bench for his side’s semi-final. Ivory Coast were without midfielder Cheick Tiote, who has yet to recover from an ankle injury and veteran Barry replaced injured Sylvain Gbohouo in goal.

The match between the two West African giants initially didn’t measure up to the expected explosive encounter but improved towards the latter part of the match. The Ghanaians neutralised the efforts of the current African Footballer of the Year, Yaya Toure, Wilfred Bony and Gervinho in the Ivorian attack while the attacking duo of Gyan and Andre Ayew were also nullified by the Black Stars’ defence.

It grew into an end to end affair but a moment of brilliance came from Everton midfielder, Christian Atsu, in the 25th minute when he saw his shot from 25 yards hit the upright. In the extra time, both sides wasted chances after chances as the Ghanaians brought in Jordan Ayew and this yielded more attack on the Ivorian defence while Renard brought in Salomon Kalou as the game headed to for the dreaded penalty shootouts.

Gunmen kidnaps the father of former Plateau governor Dariye

Kidnapping once again the headlines. Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, on Saturday kidnapped Pa Dariye Defwan, the 87-year-old father of the former governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye. A police source said the gunmen, numbering about nin,e stormed the home of the octogenarian in the Mushere area of Bokkos in Bokkos Local Government Area at about 7.30pm on Saturday.

They were said to have shot sporadically to scare people away and people before whisking away their victim on a motorcycle in the direction of Wamba in the neighboring Nasarawa State. A family source told our correspondent that the kidnappers were yet to make any contact with the family as Dariye, who is a serving Senator, representing Plateau Central, is said to be making effort to rescue his father.

Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Emmanuel Abuh, who confirmed the incident, said the police were in hot pursuit of the kidnappers. He added that the police were combing the entire area, while spent bullet shells were picked up by investigators to ascertain the calibre of weapons used in the operation. Abuh said, “We are yet to know the motive behind the kidnap, but investigations are ongoing to determine the reasons behind the kidnap of the old man.”

We can only hope and pray that the 87 year old man be returned safe and healthy to his family. I just wonder what this hoodlums are turning our dearest country into. I mean an 87 year old man that could have most of them as his grand children. God help Nigeria.
